|  | | Malinda M. Schmiechen Malinda M. Schmiechen is a Staff Attorney with the Refugee and Immigrant Program. Ms. Schmiechen represents asylum seekers in front of the USCIS Asylum Office, EOIR Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals. She also provides technical assistance to and trains volunteer attorneys on asylum law and immigration law generally. Ms. Schmiechen has an undergraduate degree from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa in Russian Language and Literature, a Master’s degree from The American University in Washington, D.C. in International Communication and a Juris Doctorate from William Mitchell College of Law in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prior to law school, Ms. Schmiechen was a Program Associate with the Women’s Human Rights Program of The Advocates where she assisted in documenting and writing human rights reports on violence against women in Central and East Europe coordinated an annual international women’s day conference. Ms. Schmiechen also worked as the Executive Director of the Minnesota chapter of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom; on international development in Poland and the Former Yugoslavia in Washington, D.C.; and as an immigration caseworker with the International Institute of Connecticut. Ms. Schmiechen is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
